Mentoring is Worth It
I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth. 3 John 4
I heard it again this week in a message shared by one of my mentors, Dr. Bill Schmidt, our speaker for our Young at Heart conference. Mentoring is worth it.
One of the greatest opportunities before us is to have the opportunity to mentor the men and women who are now part of the Millennial generation (born after 1980).
This generation wants to be mentored and taught in all areas of life. They are unlike my generation (Boomers) who didn’t need answers or anyone else’s opinion. We were going to do it our way.
Millennials want to be mentored and you and I have the opportunity in investing in a life. It is an investment that will be rich dividends if you are willing to take the risk.
On Saturday night I took 100 guests from America’s Keswick to a phenomenal Christmas program at Trinity Assembly of God. The church music ministry is directed by my dear friend, Pastor Brian Biondo – an incredibly gifted and anointed worship leader.

He was a young man who worked for me when I was Vice-President of Ministries at Sandy Cove. He was a bright, energetic kid who was eager to learn the ropes of ministry. Full of questions. Intrigued by the in’s and out’s of ministry.
I can remember nights long after the service when I had just crawled in bed and there would be a knock on the door. It was Brian with a hot soft pretzel wanting to say goodnight and ask a few questions and to check on me.
At age 22, he became the worship pastor of Trinity Assembly of God and the rest is history. I sat on the front row of this huge sanctuary watching Brian direct a 20 piece orchestra and large choir, and watching one of the most amazing Christmas productions (The Splendor of Christmas) that could easily be on Broadway.
I sat there as proud of him as if he were my own son (and I am very proud of my four sons). My heart bubbled over with praise and gratitude to the Lord for giving me the privilege of investing a small part in Brian’s life.
Don’t miss the opportunity. Is there someone in your life right now that you could mentor? It is worth it, brothers! – Bill Welte is President/CEO of America’s Keswick.
