Happy New Year

Silhouette young man Happy for 2017 new year

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. ~1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

2017 has arrived and we are excited to share our new theme for the year. HOW SHALL WE LIVE? This is a great follow-up to last year’s theme of FACING THE FUTURE WITH CONFIDENCE.

Most of us have asked the question at some point in our lives, what is God’s will for my life? Pastor Bill Raws, the grandson of our founder, always said that if you want to know God’s will for your life, start be doing with the Word of God tells you is His will.

Our theme verse for the year answers that question. If you want be doing God’s will in your life, here are three things for you to do:

1. Rejoice always. Note that it isn’t just when things are going well, but the implication is that even when things aren’t going my way, I am to rejoice. It’s not sometimes or most times. Paul leaves no wiggle room here for wondering when we are off the hook. Always is pretty clear, right?

That means on the day our new President is inaugurated, if I voted for him, I get to rejoice. If I didn’t vote for him, I still get to rejoice.

2. Pray without ceasing. That is one of my goals for this coming year. I want to be more intentional in praying about everything. We normally pray when there is something big going on around us. But I think what Paul is suggesting here is that we should be praying about anything and everything.

3. In everything give thanks. Note that the text does say that I need to give thanks FOR everything, but IN everything. I think that rejoicing, praying and giving thanks are so linked together. If I am in a terrible spot, I need to rejoice – I need to be constantly praying about that concern/situation – and I am thanking God in the midst of this circumstance because we know that He is going to use this for our God and His greater glory.

So here is what I want to encourage you to do. First of all, memorize these two verses with me this year. Let the Holy Spirit burn this truth into the hard-drive of your mind.

Secondly, I have encouraged our staff to memorize a new verse each week. That’s 52 verses. Here is the link to the verses if you would like to join us. It is an important discipline for us to hide God’s Word in our hearts.

Thirdly, share with the Freedom Fighter team what God is teaching you. We’d love to hear what you are learning.

Fourthly, get one of our new wristbands. It will be a good reminder throughout the day of doing God’s will. Email me your address and I will send one to you (bwelte@americaskeswick.org). Thanks for being a part of the Freedom Fighter blog family. We appreciate you more than you know. Have a blessed 2017.

Pushing Through Oppositions

“Then I replied to them, ‘The God of heaven will make us prosper, and we his servants will arise and build, but you have no portion or right or claim in Jerusalem.’” (Nehemiah 2:20)

After Nehemiah prayed and assessed the damage to the wall which protected Jerusalem, he began to process a strategy. Before he started, though, he faced the opposition from various heathen nations. “But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard it, they mocked us and despised us and said, “What is this thing you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?” (Nehemiah 2:19)

I heard it summed up best, “We are either are in a trial, fresh out of one, or about to face it.” Nonbelievers and believers alike have this one thing in common: struggles. This is a part of the life and the quicker we understand this reality, the quicker we can process the true essence of our hurdles. In this case, the opposition is operating through people, and personally speaking, relationships have proven to be one of my biggest learning devices.

The question: are you allowing the relationships around you, whether good or bad, to strengthen your walk? Have you complained against God’s tools of training? Nehemiah took the challenge head on and pushed to the goal that God had marked out for him.

Sidebar: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)

It’s Only Just Begun

“saying, ‘Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?’” -Mark 2:2

I recently read a Quote that said “if you looking for a comfortable religion don’t try Christianity.”

The verse from Mark chapter 2 is a call to action, after all the dust settled and the excitement of the announcement of the coming of our King, reality sets in and I can become complacent. For me, with the holiday rush over, hopefully I got what I wanted and the gifts I gave were satisfactory.

I can relate it to my salvation, the excitement of receiving Jesus in my heart and the anticipation of a new beginning. But then life calls and the Baby Jesus becomes a distant memory. The wise men remind us that after the event we need to continue to seek Him. “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?”

This is where the battle begins, Mary and Joseph are far from going back to the status quo. This birth has rocked our world and those of us who embrace it should be ready for the enemy to defeat it. The best is yet to come, like when we first believed, but the Nativity scenes are going back in the attic and most will start the hopeless task of coming up with a New Year’s resolution.

My prayer is that I will follow and walk towards the King. This will not be easy because more and more it seems like an uphill climb or a going against the crowd direction that wants to take me with them. Like the wise men, my path towards the King cannot return the same way. After encountering Jesus my way back to my routine of life must take a different path.

My heart needs to be looking for the star that leads to Jesus, coming to Him with gratitude and a sense of satisfaction and joy that comes with my salvation. I speak to so many people who fall into depression after the holidays and are discontent with the anticipation that, for them is now over for another year.

Not me, I know each day brings a new beginning and the celebration of our Saviors birth is a call to battle, I’m following King Jesus. I know the journey will not be easy but it’s way better then what I walked away from. I like what Habakkuk records at the end of his book chapter 3 verses 17-19.

“Though the fig tree may not blossom,

Nor fruit be on the vines;

Though the labor of the olive may fail,

And the fields yield no food;

Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,

And there be no herd in the stalls—

Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,

I will joy in the God of my salvation.

The LORD God is my strength;

He will make my feet like deer’s feet,

And He will make me walk on my high hills.”

Although I didn’t get what I wanted and the gifts I bought will be returned, although the lines are longer now than they were before Christmas and I’m ready to run that guy off the road, Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength.

Happy New Year, It’s been a blessing sharing with all of you this past year and I appreciate all the encouraging words. But remember, “It’s only just begun”!

Merry Christmas, Brother

Like a stone on the surface of a still river
Driving the ripples on forever
Redemption rips through the surface of time
In the cry of a tiny babe
~ Bruce Cockburn

But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time He brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time He has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. The people who walked in darkness have seen a Great Light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has Light shone. You have multiplied the nation; you have increased it’s joy; they rejoice before You as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, You have broken as on the day of Midian. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
~ from Isaiah 9

Oh beloved, it is true.

We were born to be happy. We were born to appreciate pleasure. We were made for joy. The problem is that we have completely forgotten what happiness is in our world. There was a place, and there was a time where we knew what this was. But now, we live East of the Eden where the happiness existed. We have lost our joy. We gain nothing from the things we call pleasure.

In our fierce choice, the choice to grasp at the knowledge of good and evil, the choice to try and make ourselves to be like G_d, we tore ourselves away from the One Thing that could ever make us happy. And, in trying to make ourselves aware of good and evil and to be like The Eternal One, we fell from the ability to ever attain those things.

Said more simply: we grasped for happiness like a starving child. The problem is that we were sitting at a table set lush with all the choicest foods, and the very best of Company. We were with Him. We were in the garden with They Who made us. We were tended by The Very Gardener of Life. Then, we listened to the liar.

And, in our blind quest for self-derived, or self-found happiness – we walked away from it all. Since that moment, we have been born screaming and crying and hurting and dying. No, we never learned the lesson either. We are still trying to grab for some sort of happiness in our fallen happenstance. And, the farther we have fallen, the lower and debased our sense of what will actually make it happen.

It is time for some repentance. And Christmas is the perfect time for the profound change of mind this word implies.

A number of theologians have spoken of this concept, as does His Word: The One born of the Father without a mother, takes on flesh in Mary to be born of a mother without a father. And, it is in this truth, that we have a chance to return to Joy. By the way, did you ever notice the theme of the angels’ declaration at Christmas? Joy!

Can we see it?

Joy is not getting something. Happiness is not attaining to some level of self-induldence or pleasure. No, all of this is not a thing at all. Joy, happiness, pleasure is inside of something. And that insideness is called relationship. For, in the garden, so long ago, we were in a face to face relationship with our Creator. When we walked away from this, we were not just banished from a pleasant place, we lost the only thing that could make us happy – ever.

Him.

So, this is gorgeous truth of Christmas. Jesus came, not to just show up and accomplish an heroic and loving death on the cross (though, this would have been exceedingly, abundantly more than enough). For, it seems that G_d could have accomplished our redemption in a much more spectacular way, that would have left us no doubt as to His infinite power.

No, Christmas shows us what real power is – the kind of power that does not require showing off, or getting our own way. Christmas shows us what G_d is really like and where His heart is for each of us. Christmas is where He shows – again – His beautiful face.

And, in the incarnation, Jesus becomes Man, forever. His Face, His friendship, His hands feeding people, healing disease, blessing children , accepting nails through to rough wood, and His hands raised in victory as He walks right out of a beaten grave…. This is joy: to see Him. This is deep, whole and healing relational strength: to be reconciled to Him. This is happiness: to know Him – this is the pleasure we have ever been trying to find.

So, does Christmas just seem like another holiday? Maybe it is time for some repentance, beloved. You (and often, this fool of a writer) have been looking for happiness where it does not exist…. Tonight is your night. Time to find the Joy that the angels sang so loudly about.

Merry Christmas.

Looking Back Towards a New Year

reflecting-on-2015

“Therefore I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.” – Micah 7:7 (NKJV)

If there was ever a roller coaster of a year in worldly events, it was this one. From watching the cradle of Christianity fall into complete chaos to America electing what may be the most controversial President in American history, we’ve seen much of the world’s behavior fall into disarray at a rapid pace. Even in my own personal life some things took an unusual turn. I’m really not at liberty to even openly discuss them as those people involved would prefer that I just leave things as they are and maybe “accept” what has been decided. However, there is still a part of me that screams very loudly that what is going on is very, very wrong. I guess discretion is the better part of valor. C’est la vie…

Now when it came to the “decided behavior” of the nation of Israel there was a prophet, though he is considered one of the “minor” ones, who spent forty to fifty years reminding God’s people that they had seriously drifted away from the presence of YHVH and fell for the things of a materialistic and paganistic world.

Micah was called “the conscience of Israel” by Biblical scholar Peter Craigie and was a contemporary of the prophet of Isaiah. He slammed the people of Judah (more like Jerusalem) for their dishonesty and idolatry. But he does give a glimpse into the birth of Jesus, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.” (Micah 5:2) Little is known of the Micah the man. He was raised out in the farmlands of Israel but YHVH called him to go into the big cities and pronounce very loudly the judgements that were coming if there was no repentance.

Basically, Samaria and Jerusalem had fallen into a time period where the affluent got more affluent, material prosperity was the everyday for them and they lead a whole nation of people down a road of godlessness, pretty much on the backs of the poor. YHVH had to deal with that and used Micah to break it down into three cycles of judgement, each ending with a promise of YHVH’s goodness. All they had to do was LISTEN and change their ways. The question that remains is did they receive what Micah had to say?

Well, while Micah was still alive he was received, so much so that King Hezekiah took Micah seriously. Even a century later when the prophet Jeremiah was under threat of death as he proclaimed YHVH’s now coming judgement on Israel, he would have the a few of the elders and priests remind people to “Remember when Micah of Moresheth prophesied during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah. He told the people of Judah, ‘This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says: Mount Zion will be plowed like an open field; Jerusalem will be reduced to ruins! A thicket will grow on the heights where the Temple now stands.’ But did King Hezekiah and the people kill him for saying this? No, they turned from their sins and worshiped the LORD. They begged him for mercy. Then the LORD changed His mind about the terrible disaster He had pronounced against them. So we are about to do ourselves great harm.” (Jeremiah 26:18-19)

For those of us who will be looking back at this year and see those cycles that seemed so heavy to bear, we will need to see where YHVH showed up and still carried the situation to provide His goodness. There are some of us out there that will inevitability say, “I am so done with this year and I need the new one to start off better.” But YHVH doesn’t have to provide that for you if you can’t grasp the lessons of the last one. Those folks that spoke up for Jeremiah realized that a better future was coming only if you recognize where God’s goodness was in the past. When we can acknowledge those things in the present we show everyone around just how precious it is to bring glory to YHVH and how important it is to maintain those precepts that His Son gave us…Love the LORD your God with everything you’ve got (100%, people)…and to love those around you as you love yourself. Amen?

‘Twas the Day After Christmas

Manger at night under fog

‘Twas the day after Christmas and all through the town

The ones who weren’t Christians were feeling let down

The stockings weren’t hung by the chimney anymore,

And boxes and wrapping covered the floor.

The kitchen was covered from floor to ceiling

With enough dirty dishes to set Mother reeling

The children were whining over what they didn’t get

And rather than sharing, they were throwing a fit!

The malls were bustling with post-Christmas shoppers

Searching for bargains on racks and in hoppers.

The salesmen looked haggard, the shoppers looked worse

As credit cards flew out of wallet and purse.

There were no joyful sounds of carolers singing,

And the only bells heard, were registers ringing.

The scene was altogether too grim,

For all the people who didn’t know Him.

If only this unhappy crowd could know

That the Spirit of Christmas isn’t tied with a bow

And stacked in piles underneath the tree,

He lives forever in you and in me.

He didn’t start in presents piled up in a sleigh,

He started with Christ being born in the hay.

The perfect gift from our Father above

Sent to us sinners to show us His love.

He came without wrapping or boxes or strings,

No glitter or glamour or other vain things.

He came with a promise of hope for all men,

That even in death, we’d have life again.

The next face you encounter covered with strife,

Introduce them to Jesus and change their whole life.

Teach them that Christmas is a daily thing,

That comes from intimately knowing the King.

Twas the Day That Jesus Was Born Christ

Christmas gift

Twas the Day That Jesus Was Born

Twas the day that Jesus was born 2000 years ago The fulfillment of prophecies many years foretold. A day that would change the course of history A day that would make a change in our destiny.

The gifts are all unwrapped, just a temporary thrill, God’s Son, the best gift, would die on a hill. He was born to die to pay for our sin He rose from the grave so eternal life could begin.

The indescribable gift that Father has given Is something to celebrate for we are forgiven. His gift includes His mercy and grace – A guarantee that in heaven we will see His dear face.

I am thankful today that my kids and my grands Have believed and trusted in God’s greatest plan. For they have trusted in Christ Jesus, and in Him alone. We’ll worship Him forever together around His throne.

The Tearing Away of the Old Man

pic.jpg

“You will have to let me undress you,” says Aslan the Lion… So desperate was Eustace, even his fear of Aslan’s claws was not enough to stop him from laying down flat on his back. Laying anxious on the ground, here’s what Eustace felt… The very first tear he made was so deep that I thought it had gone right into my heart. And when he began pulling the skin off, it hurt worse than anything I’ve ever felt. The only thing that made me able to bear it was just the pleasure of feeling the stuff peel off. . . . Well, he peeled the beastly stuff right off — just as I thought I’d done it myself the other three times, only they hadn’t hurt — and there it was lying on the grass: only ever so much thicker, and darker, and more knobbly-looking than the others had been. And there was I as smooth and soft as a peeled switch and smaller than I had been. Then he caught hold of me — I didn’t like that much for I was very tender underneath now that I’d no skin on — and threw me into the water. It smarted like anything but only for a moment. After that it became perfectly delicious and as soon as I started swimming and splashing I found that all the pain had gone from my arm. And then I saw why. I’d turned into a boy again. . . . After a bit the lion took me out and dressed me . . . in new clothes.

~ CS Lewis, from The Voyage of The Dawn Treader

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him the whole fullness of Deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him, who is the head of all rule and authority. In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him.
~ Paul, The Least of The Apostles, in Colossians 2

Oh beloved, it is true.

We are a tenacious people. And it is not wrong. G_d has built into us a great ability to continue along a path. But, just as stubbornness in a child is usually a problem, our unwillingness to vary from our course usually leads to destruction.

Not only were we guys who were dead in our sins, we (at least, many of us) had become guys who had a reason to stay where we were. Oh, it is not that we were comfortable in our addiction. But, we sure did like the feeling of the lie, as whatever we did worked its way through our system.

Worse too, the euphoric recall (that insanity that reminded us only of the upside – and ignored the downside) of our life-dominating sin, prompted us to keep looking back over our shoulder, that we might go back to the burning-down-life we kept trying to leave. We thought to ourselves: “Maybe just one more taste, just one more look at that curve, just one more shot, or just one more drink….”

Disaster.

But then, it can (and did) get worse for many of us. We began to somehow try to get free from our old lives. We took upon ourselves to read books, work out, try harder, and just believe in ourselves. But, the problem with believing in dead flesh, is that it is dead. It is utterly unable to perform that which we hope. And so, our flesh faked us out again.

Any of you reading this, who have not felt the false flag joy of thinking that a new ‘method’ of getting free from addiction was going to work – only to have it fail – may not comprehend this. There is this dry aloneness, all doused with shame and regret and anxiety and fear. It really is horrible. It is so horrible, that this is why we go back out on the binges we do. We know things are hopeless, so we try to at least make the pain of the umpteenth failure go away.

And hopefully, this is where it ends. Because if it doesn’t, we are going to be packed in a padded room, a jail cell, or in a coffin. Tens of thousand in the US alone don’t make it this year. We are so tenacious and broken at the same time, that we just follow through and kill the rest of anything in us that is even a little alive.

But G_d!

Can we see it?

Read the passage again. Jesus, if we will but turn to Him and let Him, comes in and cuts away that dead flesh. He does it in a way that we kinda sorta tried to do it before, but were too afraid – and far to unable to do for ourselves. He comes into the most intimate part of us and cuts away the deadness. But then, He goes even further than we could have even imagined.

He buries us. He drowns us. He finishes the killing we had started of ourselves. It is horrible. And it hurts. But, in all the pain, we are beginning to believe – and we are most definitely beginning to see The Light. We take our last breath…. And we are finally, truly and completely dead. But now, it is not a disaster – it is a victory beyond anything we could have ever comprehended.

Replacing the dry anxiety, is a cool and refreshing Oil working Its way through the deepest part of our being. Where there was fear, suddenly is the beginning of a confidence we have never had before. It is now a confidence well-placed. Any self-confidence is seen for the joke that it was (and is, and will be). Now, the confidence is in us, but it is focused away from us, and onto Him! For now, HE IS ALIVE IN US!

“Hah! What is this?!?!,” We say to ourselves. But the Voice that answers is within us, though it is not us. “You are free. It is done. I AM able. I have done this. Where are those who would condemn you?” We hesitate for a moment (this is all so new), and we answer, “They seem to be running in shame Lord. Why is this?”

His answer is what we have always hoped to hear.

“You are more powerful than you could ever begin to imagine child. I have made my abode with you. And you are now within the very God of the universe. We are one. All that I have is yours. Welcome child. I AM so glad to have you home.”

So… are you struggling in your addiction? Maybe you are not quite dead enough yet, to begin living. It is time to stop trying, and time to let Jesus come in and finish the job. You (and this fool of a writer) can’t even kill ourselves right. It takes the One who has already gone down through the grave to guide you, otherwise you will most surely be lost.

Tonight is your night, beloved. Time to let G_d cut away the deadness, and make you alive in Himself.

“’And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.’ So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: ‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated, ‘God with us.’ – Matthew 1:21-23 (NKJV)

Sometimes I am just guilty as all get out of being like Clark Griswold (National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie) around Christmas time. The first thing is my display of frustration concerning exterior illumination, the second is the inability to articulate myself during Christmas shopping, lastly is the expectation of a bonus from my employer and finding myself spending it before it is even a reality. What a wretched man I can be around this time of the year!! Who can save me from this body of death?

Then on a recent Monday morning, as I was walking back to my assigned duties at work I ran into a fellow Colony graduate, who for the sake of anonymity I’ll call Ben. Ben and I were discussing the possibilities of him being able to get some overtime at work and some rest while doing it. Ben said, “I haven’t even begun Christmas shopping yet.” To which I replied, “That may not be that important right now, you should get some sleep.” But Ben came back at me with a, “For a while people have given to me at Christmas and I’ve been like, ‘I’ve got nothing for you,’ so I feel like I gotta make up for that this time.” Hmmm…Then came Tuesday December 13th 2016.

I open my e-mail account, like I do every morning before I go to work, and I find a Ray Comfort devotional sitting there titled “Santa Claus or Satan’s Claws?” It starts off like this, “Some Christians don’t like Christmas. They see Santa Claus as a disguise for Satan’s Claws. Perhaps they are right. However, instead of getting upset by Christmas, we should use it to breach the advances of the enemy.” Okay Ray, you got my attention. I am one who wants to destroy the myth of Santa, who I’ve called “a communist in a red furry suit” in many a conversation. But Ray goes on with this…

“At this time of the year your unsaved friends and family will accept gifts without question. Strangers will accept a Gospel message with a candy cane attached. And you can start a conversation, or a street preaching session, with a cheerful, “MERRY CHRISTMAS!” What an incredible way to share the real meaning behind the birth of Jesus—He was born to die on the Cross for our sin.” So as the clock is winding down on the approach of Christmas Day, I am left wondering if I really got this whole thing down in my heart, where it should really matter.

Okay, so I have to admit that I kinda get all Jekyll and Hyde around the month of December. It always starts with my birthday and ends with a New Year dawning but in the middle of all that is day that leaves me wondering if I’ll ever hear “Well done Chris. You did what you were supposed to do now enter into My rest.” That day isn’t meant for me either but at times I sure do treat it that way. It is this heart condition I have that requires a Savior and God the Father made provision for that a really long time ago in a place called The Garden.

Christmas Day may have a different meaning to an unsaved world but I should know better than to fall into the trap that says “I have to give” and “I have to get”. What I need to do is be that piece of exterior illumination in a dark place that says “Jesus Saves” but I don’t do that very well and there isn’t any amount of money I could get to help with that either. I can’t find it at Macys and no earthly person can give it to me.

So, what is it that we receive on Christmas Day that makes this day stand out so hardcore? SALVATION, that’s what. Once we take on that gift we will literally have “God with us”. And that’s the most important the Christian needs to focus in on this time of year and we need to be sharing that with those around us. There should be joy to the world and we are called to illuminate that joy…without all the clutter…that looks like a tangled bunch of light…that needs to be straightened out…before I put this around the windows (grr). Anyway…from my family to yours. Play Ball! I mean MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

The Gift that Keeps on Giving

gift

“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” – Luke 2:14

One of the benefits to planning a vacation is the anticipation of the day of the trip. My wife and I usually start a countdown a month in advance. On a cold December morning when you’d rather stay in a warm bed the whisper of “25 more days” can bring a smile and an added boost to start your day. We are also all waiting for a day that was promised at the birth of our Savior, this is where my analogy falls apart, and my temporary escape to a pleasurable destination will come to an end. Then reality is back and I need to motivate myself with something else.

My anticipation for a desire would be described by “delight in any absent thing that produces longing for it”. The announcement to the shepherds from the angel was “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people”. This proclamation is with great anticipation that follows a giving of “The Gift that keeps on giving”.

When we accept Jesus as our savior there is a celebration in Heaven. Jesus tells us later on in Luke 10 “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents”. The Gift has been received and it will keep us until we get home. All this came to be and we celebrate a moment in time when God sent His son to bring “on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

So, this morning if you need a reason to get up and get moving, remember a reservation has been made and we will all be together one day but until then enjoy the “Gift that keeps on giving”, enter in to the peace that surpasses all understanding, joy, unspeakable joy and walk with the knowledge of the love of God that He would visit His people and lead us home. Merry “Christ” mas, love Rob and Terri, may you have a blessed day!
