“It’s Dark in Here”
“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2nd Corinthians 4:6
I would say one of the most valuable tools of the trades is light. Anytime there is an issue or problem that needs attention in order to see there must be light.
I believe in our walk with the Lord the way to victory is the constant struggle to stay in “The Light”. We sometime come across the things that trouble us and if not careful these things are the gateway to darkness.
Now, I know about darkness. In my life I spent many years in bondage which is constant darkness. However, like being in a dark room for a while our eyes adjust and we think we can see. There are obstacles that trip us up in dark places that only light can reveal.
In chapter 4 of 2nd Corinthians, Paul uses the illustration of God’s first act of creation, Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light (Genesis 1:3) to demonstrate the power of God and the Light He shines.
Paul reminds us “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us” vs. 7. He goes on to acknowledge that we will be “hard pressed” among other things. These are the things that can lead us, even as believers back into darkness (still saved) and unable to see the light which allows us to live in victory.
I think the formula to keep us in the Light is found in the beginning of the chapter, “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God”.
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” John 8:32. The switch to turn on the Light is found in “The Truth”. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” John 14:6a.
So the next time you find yourself “In the Dark”, call on “The Light of the World”, He shines out into darkness, opens our eyes so we can see. – Rob Russomano is a graduate of the Colony of Mercy and serves full-time at America’s Keswick
