How often have you heard people say, “It’s not my fault, the temptation was too much.” Or “the devil was more than I could stand, he was right up in me.”
Bull! Straight up bull!!
That’s an excuse straight from hell!
Let’s take a look at scripture.
1 Cor. 10:13 NIV No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Let’s work this backwards. “When you are tempted, He will provide a way out”. There’s the end of excuses—He ALWAYS provides a way out. Look at Joseph when Potiphar’s wife put the moves on him—he ran right out of his coat. Hey, no one said it would be a graceful escape but God always makes a way—WE need to take it. When we say we had no way out, it’s a lie—first to ourselves and then to others. Time to man up and stop making excuses.
First part now—“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.”
Is it just me or do you see great encouragement and love in this “promise”? Common to man.
Let’s remember exactly how powerful Satan is. He tempted 1/3 of the angels right out of the presence of the Living God, Father, Son & Holy Spirit! These angels knew who God is, they saw His mighty works, they saw the power of His Word, they enjoyed the love and beauty of God! And yet, Satan was able to get them to believe he was better. What tremendous power is in his lies? What incredible cunning does he actually possess?
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. Even now, God holds back the full power of Satan, He is protecting us from sin every minute of every day—always! What love! What incredible love!
So, gentlemen, are we ready to stop the excuses and accept the fact that WE make the choices to sin? Are we ready to confess, first to God and then to others? Will we be MEN and learn from our sins and move forward not repeating them?
Father, forgive us for our sins and even more, when we try to make excuses for them. Help us see the way of escape and glorify you by taking it. Amen – Steve Schmidt is a graduate of the Colony of Mercy serving on the full-time staff at America’s Keswick. He is a weekly Freedom Fighter blogger
Think About This: When it comes to killing my sin I don’t wait for the miracle, I act the miracle. —John Piper
Verses to Memorize: I waited and waited and waited for God. At last he looked; finally he listened. He lifted me out of the ditch, pulled me from deep mud. He stood me up on a solid rock to make sure I wouldn’t slip. He taught me how to sing the latest God-son, a praise-song to our God. More and more people are seeing this: they enter the mystery, abandoning themselves to God. Psalm 40:1-3 The Message
