In It For The Long Haul
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, The Father of mercies and God of all comfort.”
Over the years I’ve maintained a retirement fund which comes out of my pay. There were times I’d get my statement and see that I had a loss and the money that I was supposed to be saving was, well, “not so much”. When I would discuss this with people who were familiar with the market, they would say “Be in it for the long haul”. Basically, they were telling me not to panic, but rather trust.
It’s funny how easy I can trust the stock market, an establishment that isn’t worthy of trust. Then, when trouble comes into my life and it “seems” like I’m taking a hit, I’m ready to jump ship and take things into my own hands.
It’s not until I come across a portion of scripture like the testimony Paul starts his second letter to the Corinthians. I believe that scripture, along with a good testimony is profitable. I know that the Word of God is true and can stand alone but there’s something about talking to a seasoned saint and hearing their testimony that has a profound effect on my life.
Paul goes on to say later in the same chapter “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us”. “Through us” is the key when encouraging someone. Earlier in the chapter he states regarding the Father “who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God”.
It’s similar to me speaking to a retired person regarding my retirement account when they say “In it for the long haul”.
Are you persevering through the tough times by trusting God at His word? Maybe you should surround yourself with those who have walked this walk and can relate to your trouble. I think of it in this way, me reaching up for help and as I’m being lifted up my other hand is reaching down to the next guy. Your testimony is an important part of how effective you’ll be in ministering to the hurting and lost. So the next time you’re taking a hit remember you’re “In It For The Long Haul”. Amen! Think About This:The righteousness that God requires from you, is the righteousness that God gives to you.
This Week’s Verse to Memorize: “ Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
