God’s “No’s and “Yes’”
“Then David the king went in and sat before the Lord …” 2 Samuel 7:18
Last Sunday morning, Pastor John Hibbard shared a powerful word from 2 Samuel 7. If you remember the story, King David was burdened because the ark of the covenant had no permanent place to rest. It was still dwelling “within the tent of curtains.” 2 Samuel 7:2
So he went to Nathan with his burden and Nathan responded to David saying, “Go, do all that is in your heart and mind, for the Lord is with you.” 2 Samuel 7:3
But that very night, God had a dialog with Nathan and told him that the HIS plan was not for David to build a permanent place for the temple. The job was going to be assigned to David’s son, Solomon!
The last part of the chapter is David’s praise to the Lord and his acceptance of God’s perfect will for the building of the temple. 2 Samuel 7:18-29
One of the principles that Pastor John shared is that God’s “no’s” prepare the way for God’s great “Yes!”
As soon as he said that, I thought about the ministry of Barbara’s Place, our new residential program for women that will open sometime in November.
For 30 years we have been waiting on the Lord for HIS direction for this ministry. The journey has taken many twists and turns. Every time we thought we had the plan – God said, “No!”
We looked at building it on several parcels of ground on the far edges of our property. God said, “No!” We looked at several off-site properties – one that was so beautifully designed that we could have moved in and had little need for preparation. It was the perfect spot! But God said, “No!”
Last year the Board unanimously voted to begin the work right on the major property of America’s Keswick – the home where Pastor Bill & Ruth Raws lived for most of the ministry years. Out of the box? Yes! But God finally said, “Yes!” and we are excited to see what HE will now accomplish. Every step of this journey since making the decision last July has been a confirmation that this is God’s greater “YES!”
On Saturday, October 4th, we gathered for the dedication of Barbara’s Place to celebrate HIS faithfulness and goodness.
Has God said “NO!” to you about something you believed was His will for your life? It might just be that HIS greater “YES” is right around the corner. Trust and wait for Him! – Dr. Bill Welte is President/CEO of America’s Keswick
Think About This: The Bible recognizes no faith that does not lead to obedience, nor does it recognize any obedience that does not spring from faith. The two are opposite sides of the same coin. A. W. Tozer
This Week’s Verse to Memorize: Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ … 1 Peter 1:13
